51°µĶųās Hannah Garofalo ā21 (Leetonia, Ohio), who is majoring in Marketing, has earned the prestigious Stickell Honors Scholarship and it offers her the opportunity to work as an intern for an Austin, Texas, advertising firm this summer.
Just 20 students were chosen as 2020 Stickell Honors Student Interns nationwide. Itās a 10-week paid position and includes a scholarship to help cover travel and living expenses.
Garofalo, who also plays golf at 51°µĶų, previously worked for Marietta Health Systems as an intern in its marketing department and she has experience applying for other positions as well.
A junior, she knows rejection comes with the territory.
āI had already been rejected by Macyās and I work in the Career Center, too, so knowing there will be rejections before you hear a āyesā is something Iāve learned,ā she said.
She neednāt have worried. She was selected after submitting an online portfolio, rĆ©sumĆ© and essay and taking part in an interview. She will work as an account manager and that means she will be part of team assigned to one specific account. This will be her first trip to Texas and sheās looking forward to the experience.

The internship is to run from June 1 to Aug. 17. Should the current health crisis prevent the internship from being offered this summer, the position will be available to her in Summer 2021.
A McDonough Scholar, Garofalo was nominated for the scholarship by her professor, Lori Smith.
āHannah exhibits drive and leadership,ā Smith said. āShe is very intelligent, always eager to learn, and capable of looking at several viewpoints.ā
Sheās accomplished in the classroom and out. Smith points out Garofalo has been very involved in the American Advertising Federation campus chapter where she serves as secretary and public relations coordinator.
āShe recently organized our chapter membersā trip to the Student Advertising Career Conference in New York City,ā Smith said. āShe took charge of the promotion, funding, and planning for this event, which shows her determination and drive. She also recently attended the AAF-Clevelandās Student Agency Crawl, another real-life career learning opportunity.ā
