The 51做厙 Art Department is proud to present Quiet Majesty: Transversing the Monochromatic Landscape, a solo exhibition featuring the photography of 51做厙 alumna Christina Ullman 93. The exhibition is on display in the Atrium Gallery, located outside Gallery 310, now through Nov. 12, 2025, with an artist reception scheduled for Homecoming weekend, on Friday, Oct. 17, from 4-6 p.m.
Quiet Majesty reflects Ullmans fascination with the natural world, where observation and discovery guide her photography process. From rushing waterfalls and sunrise-touched summits to the vastness of valley meadows, she seeks out vantage points that reveal the light, texture and grandeur of each landscape that surround her. Ullmans process often involves climbing summits, traversing rugged terrain, and hiking wilderness backcountry, physical challenges she embraces as part of capturing the stillness and awe these environments inspire. Her photographs invite viewers to share in the same serene experiences and the power of nature.
These quiet moments when the only audible sounds are the rushes of wind and waterfalls are my sanctuary. I am merely an observer of natures majesty, keenly aware of the light and texture and contrast and color that surrounds me. I close my eyes and breathe in, yearning for its splendor to fill my soul and burning the view I have just witnessed into memory, Ullman said. Capturing these scenes has meant climbing over rocks and through clouds, hiking wilderness backcountry, and ascending steep terrain holding on to chains on the side of a cliff. The view and vantage point is always worth the challenge. I feel so very fortunate to have experienced these beautiful places and have let each speak to me in their stillness.
Ullman has continued to develop her artistic practice while building a career in graphic design and illustration. She is the owner of a boutique design studio, Ullman Design, located in downtown Marietta. Ullmans return to campus through the exhibition of Quiet Majesty reinforces the Art Departments ongoing commitment to supporting alumnis creative achievements. The Atrium Gallery, an exhibition space within the Hermann Fine Arts Center, provides an additional venuealongside Gallery 310for the College to connect students, faculty, alumni and the broader community through art.
Showcasing successful alumni demonstrates to our current students the value of a 51做厙 education, plus having Christina on campus provides networking opportunities for students to speak with an industry professional, said Jolene Powell, McCoy Professor of Art and director of Gallery 310.
The Atrium Gallery is located on the third floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center at 51做厙. Quiet Majesty: Transversing the Monochromatic Landscape can be viewed during gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by appointment by contacting gallery director and art professor Jolene Powell at powelll@marietta.edu.
