Applying as a 
First-time Undergraduate Student


We welcome your application to 51做厙! We review applications on a rolling basis, which means youll hear from us sooner rather than later. Admission decisions begin going out the week of September 16 and continue weekly after thatso once you apply, you wont be left waiting long.

Apply to 51做厙 in Just a Few Steps

Were here to make the application process straightforward and supportive. Heres what youll need to do:

1. Complete Your Application  |  You can apply using Mariettas online application or the Common Application.

  • Choose Mariettas application if youre applying only to us and want a quick, simple experience.
  • Use the Common App if youre applying to multiple colleges and want to manage everything in one place.

2. Send Your Official High School Transcript  |  Ask your high school to send us an official transcript directly. This helps us understand your academic journey so far.

3. Submit a School Counselor Report  |  Fill out the top portion of the School Counselor Report, then give it to your school counselor. Theyll complete it and send it to Marietta along with your transcript.
If your counselor prefers, a letter of recommendation can be submitted instead of the report form.

4. Write Your Personal Essay  |  Your essay is your chance to share your story and your goals. We ask you to reflect on: What does college success mean to you?

5. Teacher Evaluation (Optional)  |  If youd like, you may submit a teacher evaluation. Complete the top portion of the evaluation form and give it to a teacher who taught you during your junior or senior year. Youre also welcome to submit additional recommendations from a teacher, coach, or club adviser.

6. Admission Tests (Optional)  |  Marietta is 喧梗莽喧o梯喧勳棗紳硃梭. Submitting ACT or SAT scores is completely your choiceapply with what best represents you.

Applying as a Transfer Student


At 51做厙, were excited to support students who are continuing their college journey.

Youre considered a transfer student if youve attended a college or university after graduating from high school. If youve taken college courses while still in high school, youll apply as a firstyear student.

Apply when it works best for you.
Transfer students may apply yearround, and we encourage you to apply as early as possibleespecially if youd like to be considered for academic scholarships.

Planning ahead pays off.
If you apply early and are admitted, we recommend submit your $200 enrollment deposit  soon after acceptance. This allows us to schedule your advising appointment prior to your registration time, so you feel prepared and confident when choosing your classes.

How to Apply

1. Submit Your Application for Admission

2. Share Your Transfer Essay
We want to learn more about your goals and what led you here. In one or two pages, please respond to the following prompt:

3. Submit Your Transfer Clearance Form
All transfer students must include a completed Transfer Clearance Form, which should be filled out by the Dean of Students Office (or equivalent) at the last college or university you attended.

4. Send Your Transcripts
Ask both your high school and college registrars to send official transcripts directly to the our Office of Admission. Were happy to accept transcripts electronically or by mail.

M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and students may begin the program in either the Fall, Spring or Summer terms.  To apply, youll need to have completed a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 is preferred. 

As part of the application process, youll be asked to:

  • Complete the graduate application
  • Submit two letters of reference (one academic and one professional)
  • Write an essay based on a program-specific prompt
  • Submit a resume or CV

M.A. in Psychology

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and students may begin the program in either the Fall or Spring semestergiving you flexibility in planning your next step.

To apply, youll need to have completed a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with either a major or minor in psychology, or have earned at least 12 undergraduate credit hours in psychology. Applicants must also have completed specific psychology coursework and meet the programs minimum GPA requirement. If your undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, youll be asked to submit GRE scores.

As part of the application process, youll be asked to:

Physician Assistant Studies

Applicants to the 51做厙 Physician Assistant Program come from a wide range of academic backgrounds. To apply, you must have earned a bachelors degree in any discipline from a regionally accredited institution and completed the required prerequisite coursework with at least the minimum GPA.

January 15th is the CASPA program application submission deadline for the June matriculation date.

As part of your CASPA application, youll submit GRE test scores and confirm that you meet the programs Technical Standards, which ensure youre prepared for the academic and clinical demands of the profession.

M.A. in Environmental Sustainability Leadership

The Environmental Sustainability Leadership program is designed for students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. We value diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary thinking. Is there a deadline or when are applications reviewed term starts.

To apply, you must have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.  No GRE is required. Students with coursework in business, science, or related areas may find the program especially well aligned with their experience.

As part of the application process, youll be asked to:

  • Write a statement of purpose describing your career goals and your interest in environmental sustainability leadership

Science of Reading Endorsement
for Graduate Credit

Applicants to the 51做厙 Science of Reading Teaching endorsement program earn graduate credit as they prepare to qualify for a teaching license endorsement.  To apply, you must have roof of teaching licensure. Teachers who have completed professional development in Reading of Science may be able to earn credit for prior learning with proof of completion. 

With three start dates each year, you can begin the program at a time that fits your school and personal scheduleand finish five-course program in under one year.

International Graduate Students

In addition to the required TOEFL test scores and essay, international graduate students will be administered a writing test in the presence of an officer of the College. Based on the results of their writing sample, accepted students may be required to take English as a Second Language courses in preparation for graduate study. If so, additional tuition fees will be applicable.

Applying as an International Student


Admission to 51做厙 is based on previous scholastic achievement and English proficiency. Please email the following items to admit@marietta.edu or mail documents to 51做厙, Office of Admission, Marietta, Ohio, 45750-4005, USA.

How to Apply
  1. Complete the International Application.
  2. Submit your secondary school transcript, mark sheets, or certificate -- all records must be in original language format and be accompanied by NACES certified English translations (we recommend ). Your transcript should include the subjects studied and the grades or marks for each subject. Records filed for admission are not returned; please send CERTIFIED photocopies if the documents cannot easily be replaced.
  3. Submit your Official University or College transcripts, if applicable. You must submit an original language copy and a certified English-translated copy of the transcript.
  4. Submit an Official Financial Statement must be a bank balance statement or signed by an official sponsor. (Must certify that appropriate financial support will be provided for a minimum of one full year of study)
  5. Submit your English language proficiency results from one of the following internationally recognized tests:
    • Students must meet the minimum of a 80 on the TOEFL and a minimum of 17 per subsection (To obtain information on registering for a TOEFL exam, check online at ).
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Band 6.5 or higher composite score and at least a 6.5 in all sub-areas.
    • Duolingo English Test: Score of 115 or higher and at least a 105 in all sub-areas.
    • Cambridge Proficiency Examination (CPE): Grade C or Higher; or Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Grade B or higher; or First Certificate Exam (FCE): Grade A.
  6. Submit an essay/personal statement, written in English, explaining why you would like to attend 51做厙.
  7. Submit a copy of the identification page of your passport (or an explanation why you cannot provide this).
Transfer International Students

Transfer students must meet the same entrance requirements as freshman applicants and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent. If you are transferring from another institution of higher education in the United States, an International Student Advisor's Report (PDF) is required in addition to the above credentials.

The College recognizes the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program for admission purposes and advance placement. Students who have received the IB Diploma will be granted general college credit for up to two higher level IB courses in which they achieve grades of 5 or better. Decisions on placement and credit in departmental majors, minors and certificates are made by the Registrar in consultation with the appropriate department chairs.

International Graduate Students

In addition to the required TOEFL test scores and essay, international graduate students will be administered a writing test in the presence of an officer of the College. Based on the results of their writing sample, accepted students may be required to take English as a Second Language courses in preparation for graduate study. If so, additional tuition fees will be applicable.

Important Postmark Deadlines
  • Fall semester classes begin in August. Students interested in applying for fall semester classes should have all application materials postmarked by July 15.
  • Spring semester classes begin in January. Students interested in applying for spring semester classes should have all application materials postmarked by December 1.

What is a Non-Degree Seeking Student?

Are you interested in taking some undergraduate courses at 51做厙 as a part-time student, but have no current interest in pursuing a degree here?  If so, then Non-Degree admission may be just the thing for you.

Here at 51做厙, individuals who are not current or former MC students and have no interest in pursuing a degree at MC, but wish to take courses (maximum of 12 credits) may do so as a non-degree-seeking student. There are several subcategories of student scenarios related to Non-Degree admission as shared below:

  • Transient (Visiting) Students: For individuals currently enrolled at another institution who wish to take undergraduate or graduate courses at MC temporarily, to transfer the credits back to their home college or university.
  • Post-Baccalaureate/Licensure: For individuals who have already earned a bachelor's degree and seek to enroll in undergraduate courses at MC to prepare for Education licensure.
  • Personal Enrichment: For individuals interested in taking academic courses at MC solely for personal growth and enrichment, without pursuing a degree.
  • College Credit Plus: For high school students who have not yet graduated but wish to take MC undergraduate courses on the MC campus for college credit.
  • College Credit Plus - Dual Enrollment: For high school students who have not yet graduated but seek to take MC undergraduate courses offered at their high school, earning both college and high school credit.
  • WSCO2M: For Washington State College of Ohio students with fewer than 25 earned credit hours who wish to take one MC course per term at the WSCO rate, gaining access to MC resources and, optionally, MC residence halls (additional fees apply).

Applying as a Non-Degree Seeking Student

While all candidates must complete and submit an online application, admission requirements vary depending on the non-degree subtype as outlined below:

  1. Submission of a completed (required of all ND candidates)
  2. Earned secondary/high school or post-secondary degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better depending on the last institution attended (required of all ND candidates)
  3. Copy of secondary/high school academic transcript or equivalent (required of candidates who have not earned college credit after receipt of secondary/high school diploma)
  4. Copy of college/university transcripts from most recently attended institution and any college from which required prerequisites were taken for classes the student wishes to enroll at 51做厙. (required of candidates who have earned any amount of college credit after the award of their high school diploma)
  5. Clearance form signed by the Dean of the college last attended (required of all candidates seeking  admission as a transient student)

College Policies & Standards

Even though you are not pursuing credits toward an MC degree, you are considered an MC student and expected to follow the same policies, procedures, and behavior guidelines.

Once admitted as a non-degree seeking student your record remains active and eligible to register for future terms as long you remain enrolled or have no more than two consecutive terms of non-enrollment.  Non-enrollment periods exceeding two consecutive terms will require you to apply again.

Applying as a Veteran or Military Personnel

51做厙 is committed to serving and educating our veterans, military personnel, and their families! 51做厙 is recognized as an Ohio Purple Star institution for its support programs for students with military backgrounds. 

Students coming from the U.S. armed forces may offer for consideration scores earned through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and/or the DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), military transcripts and/or the DD-214, as well as official transcripts from any prior institution(s) of higher education.

Armed Services

The College utilizes the recommendations of the American Council on Education (ACE) as found in the most recent Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services when assessing for military training for credit. A military transcript and or DD-214 may be provided as evidence of successfully completed courses listed in these publications. Credit is granted for education is equivalent to or similar to courses offered at 51做厙.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Under certain circumstances, a student may offer for consideration credits earned through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) of The College Board. Students will not be eligible to receive CLEP credit for courses when college credit has been awarded for the same course or more advanced courses in that same subject area. To receive credits for a CLEP examination, the student must provide a score report from CLEP and have obtained the minimum accepted score for that exam as determined by 51做厙 departmental policies. The College will grant a total of up to 36 hours of credit by examination through CLEP/DANTES toward graduation. Information concerning CLEP minimum scores and examinations for which credit is awarded may be obtained from the Academic Resource Center (ARC).

Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)

The College also accepts credit through DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST). The College will grant a total of up to 36 hours of credit by examination through CLEP/DANTES toward graduation. Information concerning DANTES may be obtained at the Academic Resource Center (ARC).

Transfer Credit

Transfer students will be awarded credit for all courses previously completed at an accredited institution of higher education with a grade of "C" or higher. The Registrar will determine the specific credit to be awarded and how those credits will be applied toward general education and program requirements in consultation with the appropriate department chair. Credits earned for developmental courses may be transferred in to fulfill course prerequisites but will not apply toward the minimum hours for the degree. 

Courses transferred in will be shown as transfer credit (a grade of "TR") on the 51做厙 transcript. The grades earned for transferred courses are not included in computing the cumulative or program grade point averages. Transfer hours do not count as hours in residence; see the  section of the  for more details.

Transfer credit from non-accredited institutions is determined on a course-by-course basis upon review of a course syllabus.

Credit hours transferred in from an institution following a quarter or a unit program will be converted to semester hours.

Applying for Readmission

At 51做厙, students must apply for readmission following:

  • Academic dismissal/administrative leave
  • Approved academic leave
  • Graduation from 51做厙
  • Medical leave
  • Personal leave
  • Suspension for academic dishonesty
  • Suspension for a social conduct violation
  • Withdrawal from 51做厙

Most types of leave only require an application for readmission. However, readmission following an academic dismissal/administrative withdrawal and readmission following medical leave require students to submit additional materials along with their application for readmission.

Your application will not be reviewed until all materials are received. For more information about readmission into 51做厙, please contact Chris Scheppner, Director of Admission.

Additional Materials for Readmission Following Academic Dismissal / Administrative Withdrawal

A student who has been dismissed for insufficient grade point average may be considered for readmission on probation if that student has been away from 51做厙 for at least a summer plus one semester and can submit evidence of maturity and motivation. Materials that must be submitted along with the application are:

  • An essay to the Academic Standards Committee (ASC) stating what the student feels were the obstacles to their academic success at 51做厙 and what they have done since their dismissal that contributed to their readiness to return. Students should also include a complete outline of how they plan to succeed, a list of their educational goals, and community resources they intend to utilize (e.g., counseling or career centers, academic advising, tutoring, study skills review, etc.).
  • At least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or administrator from the most recently attended college/university other than 51做厙 (if applicable) and/or one or more letters of recommendation from supervisors, counselors, commanding officers, or employers (other than 51做厙).
  • At least one letter of recommendation from present faculty or administrators at 51做厙 (e.g., academic advisor, faculty member, etc.)
Additional Materials for Readmission Following Medical Leave

Readmission following medical leave requires the application for readmission and a letter from the student's professional therapist, physician, or both, stating the student's medical situation and their belief that the student can live and work at 51做厙. This letter must be addressed to the Center for Health and Wellness Director.
